Lewa is regularly heralded as a beacon for conservation and community cohesion and the highlights from 2023 certainly prove this accolade. There are now 260 rhinos across the Lewa-Borana landscape, Grevy’s zebra have increased by 15% in the last year and 53 new pancake tortoises have been discovered.

In the community 42,000 locals have received health care from January to June and 8,623 students have enrolled in Lewa-supported schools in September, representing an increase from the previous term. A new water project was established in Ntumburi bringing the total number of water projects to 18.

The team have also fenced 1,177 acres of land for ecological restoration and planted 1,600 trees under the Conservation Education Programme.
