The feedback from the participants was so overwhelmingly positive, the event will now take place on the last Sunday of every month. Eight members of Kilindi’s staff joined forces with fourteen locals from the village to gather a total of 18 full 100kg bags of waste.

Those that took part reported a sense of unity, teamwork and togetherness alongside a shared goal of improving their surrounding environment. Going forward an increased number of garbage bins will be placed around these areas to assist in keeping the environment clean.

loisaba samburu girls

Loisaba Conservancy has published a 12-page Social Assessment for Protected Areas (SAPA) designed to assess the social impacts of protected or conserved areas on local communities. A total of 418 households took part in the assessment, representing a broad cross-section of the community. Participants were questioned on a wide range of topics including health, education, employment opportunities, security, cattle feeding and access to water.

The feedback was broadly very positive with 95.9% of respondents reporting that Loisaba Conservancy increased their wellbeing. 91.4% also recognised the importance conservation education and the positive impact it brings. Of the main concerns, human-elephant conflict remains a key challenge for surrounding communities. That is why Loisaba Conservancy’s partnerships with San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance and Save the Elephants to develop innovative mitigation methods remains a key priority in 2025 and going forward. Manor Horse Ride

Elewana’s Director of Marketing & Communications, Alina Haq took a horse-riding excursion at the Manor at Ngorongoro as a complete beginner. Below, she tells us how the experience has ignited a new found confidence with horses.

Had you had any previous experience horse riding.

This was my first experience with horseback riding, and it was incredibly enjoyable. I felt a mix of excitement and nervousness at the beginning, but it quickly transformed into a sense of peace as I connected with the horse.

Tell us a little bit about the excursion.

We rode through beautiful trails that wound through the coffee plantations on the property. The route was scenic and lasted about an hour, allowing us to take in the lush greenery and stunning views of the surrounding landscape.

You must have been apprehensive, how did the staff calm your nerves.

The staff were fantastic, providing a thorough introduction and safety briefing before we started. They explained how to handle the horses and made sure I felt secure in the saddle. Their friendly demeanour and encouragement throughout the ride helped me relax and really enjoy the experience.

What advice would you give other guests considering horse riding for the first time.

I would definitely encourage other guests to try horseback riding! It's a unique way to explore the area. Just remember to wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes, and don't hesitate to communicate with the staff about any concerns. They're there to help you have the best experience.

Which other Elewana properties offer horse-riding experiences

Besides The Manor at Ngorongoro, other Elewana properties like Kifaru House, Lewa Safari Camp, Loisaba Lodo Springs, Loisaba Star Beds, Loisaba Tented Camp and Elephant Pepper Camp also offer horseback riding experiences. It’s a great way to explore the stunning landscapes and encounter wildlife in a unique manner.
