Pupils of Ololomei Primary School

Elsa’s Kopje has just completed a major refurbishment with upgrades to the rooms, communal areas and the pool. The spa has also been enhanced with an expanded space and there is a new sundowner spot, allowing guests panoramic views of the expansive surrounding plains whilst they enjoy their drink of choice. There is a delicious new culinary offering that plays to Kenya's diverse food traditions serving up a feast of local produce specially curated by our skilled Kenyan chef.

To help our valued partners illustrate the refurbishment of this iconic lodge, a new portfolio of images is now ready to download here.

For full details on the refurbishment read our interview with Operations Manager, Callum Oliver, in this month’s interview below.

Pupils of Ololomei Primary School

In May 2025, the Land & Life Foundation proudly donated 12 sturdy metal tables and 24 matching benches to Ololomei Primary School, helping to furnish its newly constructed dining hall. Each bench comfortably seats up to six students, giving the dining hall a total seating capacity of 144 students. The dining hall will provide a much-needed space for meals, group activities, and school gatherings. The benches, built to withstand daily use, ensure a more comfortable and organized environment for the students.

Located in the Mara North region, Ololomei Primary School enjoys a long-standing relationship with Elewana's Elephant Pepper Camp. This latest donation is part of a broader history of support from the Foundation, which includes hosting a Menstrual Health & Awareness workshop for students aged 10 and above, distributing essential COVID-19 supplies during the pandemic, and providing various in-kind donations over the years.

Loisaba welcomes neighbouring schools

Every month Loisaba Conservancy invites students to participate in interactive learning experiences held at the Conservation Centre. From game drives exploring wildlife behaviour and ecology to sessions on elephant coexistence and camera trapping, participants get a hands-on look at what conservation really means.

These days are a vital part of inspiring the next generation of conservation leaders and building strong connections with local communities and the land. With information available on careers in conservation, it is hoped that these valuable days will inspire our future wildlife caretakers.

Located in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area in northern Tanzania, the Manor at Ngorongoro welcomes guests with nine luxurious cottages offering a total of 18 suites nestled within the property's 1,500-acre Arabica coffee estate. The one-of-a-kind property is located just south of the Ngorongoro Crater, known as the eighth wonder of the world, where guests can explore an abundance of wildlife via game drives and picnic lunches on the crater floor.

At this old-world Manor home, each cottage is thoughtfully positioned to allow for intimacy and privacy while maximising views of the surrounding gardens and lush verdant coffee plantation.  The property's main Manor House, family cottage, and guest cottages are designed with a beautiful mixture of old-world Afro-European architecture and décor and African hospitality. Seasonal produce from the Manor's shamba 'garden' is incorporated into the menus, along with fresh farm eggs, homemade breads and carefully selected meats and fish.

Along with game drives to the crater and Lake Manyara, guests can also enjoy the estate's serene spa and beautiful rides on horseback with Appaloosa horses through the encompassing hills.

We spoke with Callum Oliver, Operations Manager for Elewana about the exciting new renovations at Elsa’s Kopje.

What were you aiming to improve with the renovations?

The aim was to freshen & lighten up one of the most historic camps in Kenya.

What are you most excited about sharing with guests, whether first-time or return guests? Can you share some of the new touches that they will notice?

We’re most excited to welcome guests back to a refreshed Elsa’s Kopje that still holds the heart and soul of what makes it so special. Whether it’s your first visit or your fifth, the updates enhance the comfort and elegance of the lodge without losing the deep connection to the wilderness and history of Meru. Meru National Park is an incredible destination where you can experience the wilderness almost entirely to yourselves. We have focused on improving our sunset drink spot, upgrading the spa for couples massages, redoing the pools and lightening some of the darker wood plus a significant furniture redesign.

What inspired the addition of the new sundowner spot?

The new extended sundowner spot was developed to try and elevate one of the most cherished moments on safari: watching the sun dip below the horizon with a drink in hand and nature all around. The extension of the space allows us to host more guests, entertain private dinners for groups and generally provide a heightened guest experience.

The culinary experience at Elewana has also been revamped – can you share some of those updates and what kind of flavours and dishes can guests look forward to trying?

We want the food to be a significant part of the holistic experience at Elsa's Kopje, focusing on the people, the story, and the connection to the wild and local cuisine. Amie & Wesley, our group training chefs have spent a large amount of time developing this menu which focuses on reinterpreting Swahili and local cuisine with contemporary techniques while staying true to the heritage and bold regional flavours.

We’ve also heard that there will be a new outdoor cinema for guests to watch the Born Free movie. Can you share more about the experience and what is planned?

Yes, this is a new activity we hope to have up & running in the next month or so. It allows for silent viewing, ensuring that other guests are not disturbed while providing a unique experience which tells the legendary story of Elsas.
