The Great Grevy’s Rally is a two-day photographic census of Grevy’s zebra in northern and central Kenya. On the 27th and 28th of January 2018, conservancy managers, county officials, community members and local and international citizen scientists will join conservationists in counting and photographing all Grevy’s zebra observed throughout their habitat in Laikipia, Isiolo, Samburu, Meru and Marsabit Counties.

This is the second national census of the endangered Grevy’s zebra to determine the effects of the 2016/2017 drought on their survival. For reticulated giraffe, this is the first the national census of the species and will provide a critical baseline from which to measure their population trends in the future.

The rally is an initiative of the national Grevy’s Zebra Technical Committee, and is being organized by the following organizations: Kenya Wildlife Service, Grevy’s Zebra Trust, Laikipia Wildlife Forum, Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, Marwell Wildlife, Northern Rangelands Trust, Princeton University (USA), Saint Louis Zoo (USA), Samburu Trust and Wildlife Direct.
