In late August 2025, ten southern white rhinos were successfully translocated to Loisaba Conservancy from Meru National Park and Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. The rhinos have begun settling into their new environment across Loisaba’s 58,000 acres and guests of Elewana’s three camps in the conservancy now have a chance to see both black and white rhino roaming the Conservancy. While southern white rhinos are not native to Kenya, their introduction to Loisaba contributes to species conservation, genetic diversity, and research opportunities, while also supporting tourism and education efforts that benefit the wider ecosystem.

The rhinos were carefully selected in collaboration with Kenya Wildlife Service’s (KWS) veterinarians to ensure a healthy, well-balanced group, and their presence strengthens Kenya’s broader conservation initiatives.

Wildlife Ranger Challenge

On 20th September 2025, Wildlife Rangers across Africa ran a 21 Km race while carrying 22 Kg backpacks in some of the most stunning landscapes around the continent. The annual event is organised by the Tusk and Game Rangers Association of Africa (GRAA) to celebrate and support Africa’s rangers by enhancing their livelihoods, improving their performance, training and safety, and advocating for transformative changes in conservation. Collectively, Tusk and GRAA have invested over $21 million into ranger welfare and development across Africa through the Wildlife Ranger Challenge.

Elewana’s Kifaru House Lewa and the Land & Life Foundation were proud to be part of this initiative as a key supporting partner for the ranger teams hosted at the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. Our primary role was to host and manage the first water station at the 5 Km mark, providing water and fresh fruit to the competing teams. 27 teams participated in the Lewa hub event, including two international teams from Tanzania. Elewana's involvement effectively demonstrated our commitment to the vital work of rangers and solidified our role as an active and supportive partner within the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy and the wider East African tourism and conservation community.

The Randilen Wildlife Management Area (WMA), where Elewana Tarangire Treetops is located, has come up with a creative way of spreading their positive impact work and future plans to local communities. This year the annual report with the help of Honeyguide was translated into a 55-minute Swahili-language film.

Many community members cannot read or lack the opportunity to travel to an office to collect a printed report, so a traditional document, whether in hard copy or soft copy, does not reach all the people the WMA serves. That is why Randilen, with support from Honeyguide, has produced its annual report as a 55-minute Swahili-language film. Shown in every village across the WMA on a roadshow, the film ensures that every WMA shareholder, whether a grandmother, schoolchild or herder, has the same opportunity to see how their WMA is performing and where it is heading.

This year, Randilen aims to reach more than 5,000 viewers. Last week alone, screenings in five villages drew nearly 1,000 people. The community’s response says it best: “The film is too short (at 55 minutes). We want it longer and shown more often so we can better understand what is happening in our WMA.”

By turning the annual report into a shared community experience, Randilen aims to strengthen transparency, accountability, and ownership of conservation.

Elewana Serengeti Pioneer Camp imitates the romance of the safari camps of the 1930’s, a time when an African safari was truly a journey into the unknown, with the luxuries that guests have come to expect today. Comprised of twelve tented bedrooms, all of which have en-suite facilities including a flushing toilet, vanity basin, and showers, the interiors are designed to evoke the charm of a bygone era. The property offers incredible access to the annual migration and the opportunity to spot the ‘Big Five’, with sweeping views overlooking Moru Kopjes, Lake Magadi, and the endless plains.

In 2024 the property underwent a refurbishment of some of the bedrooms and the communal areas. The lounge area has been revamped using both repurposed, reupholstered furnishings and new pieces, incorporating organic linen textiles and leather in tan and beige. A new bar was built in the library area complemented by fresh artwork which features scientific wildlife drawings. Furniture in the dining area was sanded, stained, and reupholstered, while the pool location now features a new shaded area with couches and tables. Guest rooms now feature furnishings that have been sanded and re-stained, along with new carpets and rugs in jute and hand-woven wool. Glassware from Shanga, new brass bedside lamps, as well as other thoughtful trinkets and animal prints have been thoughtfully placed in rooms, recalling the beauty of Africa.

During their stay, guests can enjoy game drives, private bush picnics, sundowners, and camp-fire dining. The refreshing pool allows guests to cool off after a game drive. Serengeti Pioneer Camp’s ‘zero footprint’ and close proximity to nature make an unmistakably distinctive and truly individual offering.

SunriseKilindi

As Said Mnukwa settles into his new role at the stunning beach front Kilindi Zanzibar, he talks to us about his experience and what he hopes that will add to the property.

Tell us a little bit about your background

I am Tanzanian with 30 years of experience in hospitality where I have developed a unique blend of expertise. This includes establishing operations for new hotels in East Africa where my role was to ensure premium service standards in luxury properties. My experience also extends to first-class passengers aboard Etihad Airways, a role that has instilled profound adaptability, a strong focus on service excellence, and a proven ability to lead teams in diverse international environments.

How has your Internationally diverse carer shaped the way you work

Each region I have worked in has presented me with unique guest expectations and operational nuances. It has also sharpened my ability to adapt service delivery and team management to different cultural contexts while maintaining high international standards. In addition, the experience over the past four years at the incredible Elewana Serengeti Migration Camp has added to my strong understanding of operations in a remote and specialised environment.

What are you most looking forward to about working at Kilindi Zanzibar

The transition to Kilindi (an island property) presents a new chapter for me to apply proven management and guest experience skills in a new setting. I am looking forward to the opportunity to blend logistical and service delivery skills from the bush and international experience with the expectations of an island clientele in order to create a memorable and seamless experience for guests.

What plans do you have for Kilindi

Kilindi is working very well, however the plan is to elevate the offering even further from guests' experience, to front and back of house. I also plan to work closely with the neighbouring community ensuring beneficial and harmonious relations, as well as raising awareness of sustainable living.
